FAQ

Does the Garmin Alpha 300i include a collar?

No. This product is the handheld unit only. Compatible Garmin tracking and training collars such as the TT25 or T20 must be purchased separately or as part of a full system bundle.

What is the difference between the Alpha 300 and Alpha 300i?

The Alpha 300i includes built-in inReach® satellite communication modules, allowing two-way text messaging, location sharing, and emergency SOS functionality outside cellular coverage boundaries. The standard Alpha 300 does not include these satellite communications hardware features.

How many dogs can the Alpha 300i track?

The Alpha 300i can actively track up to 20 compatible Garmin tracking collars simultaneously on a single screen.

What is the maximum tracking range?

When paired with compatible collars like the Garmin TT25 or T20, the Alpha 300i supports tracking ranges up to 9 miles. Actual range limits vary based on terrain density and environmental conditions.

Does the Alpha 300i support training features?

Yes. When paired with electronic training collars such as the Garmin TT25, the Alpha 300i provides access to 18 levels of continuous and momentary stimulation, plus audible tone and vibration corrections.

Can I download satellite imagery?

Yes. BirdsEye Satellite Imagery can be downloaded directly to your handheld over a standard Wi-Fi connection without an added subscription, and the Alpha 300i is fully compatible with Garmin Outdoor Maps+ for advanced topography mapping.

How long does the battery last?

The Alpha 300i provides up to 55 hours of battery runtime under typical field conditions with its rechargeable lithium-ion power system.

Is the Alpha 300i worth it for coon hunters?

Absolutely. The combined powerhouse of premium multi-satellite GPS, advanced mapping displays, massive 55-hour battery life, robust casing, and off-grid inReach® safety text messaging makes this one of the ultimate handheld choices for houndsmen working dogs deep inside remote woodlines.

works, reasonable monthly rate.

i got this, believe it or not, along with a dog collar for my dog who will not eliminate on lead. we were vacationing in the wilds of nh, and i didn't want to have to worry about her running off never to be seen again. she's well behaved overall, but can be skittish in a new environment. this unit works in areas with no cell reception and gave us a low stress vacation.

Reliable, long battery life

This is a high quality piece of equipment. It connects with a TT25 in a few seconds, the connection is solid, and it pretty much works well in all conditions. I am using it 5 times a week, 1h to 1h30 each time, and I charge both this unit and the TT25 every other week. Not by absolute necessity, but just because the batteries are at or just below 50%.The software is showing its age. The UI could be improved, in the age of iPhones, but it works. I guess there is a tradeoff between usability and battery life. This one is prioritizing battery life. I only had one crash in 6 months.I like the physical buttons to activate the collar. Unfortunately they do not work when the screen went to sleep after a while, so you first have to wake up the screen to use these buttons. That would be the one thing to fix if I had to pick one.Great unit though. Maps are preloaded and are very usable. It’s proven software and high grade hardware.

Way better than the Alpha 100. Good for hiking.

So, I bought both the Alpha 100 and the Alpha 300i for comparison. The 300i is way more intuitive and easy to use - hands down. The bigger screen is a must for my big thumbs to navigate. It's a big price difference, but I couldn't go back to the Alpha 100 after trying the Alpha 300i. I bought this to track my dogs while hiking. It doubles as a standalone backpacking GPS too. I'm pleased.
