Garmin Alpha 300 Handheld

The Garmin Alpha 300 Handheld is built for serious hunters who demand fast, reliable GPS dog tracking and intuitive training controls. Whether you're chasing coonhounds through hardwood bottoms, running hog dogs in Florida palmettos, or working bird dogs across open fields, the Alpha 300 delivers premium Garmin performance in a rugged, easy-to-use handheld.

Featuring a bright 3.5-inch sunlight-readable touchscreen, six-button dog-focused controls, preloaded TopoActive Maps, downloadable BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, and support for Outdoor Maps+, the Alpha 300 helps you navigate confidently while managing your dogs. It can track up to 20 compatible Garmin collars with update rates as fast as 2.5 seconds and offers up to 55 hours of battery life on a single charge. Unlike the Alpha 300i, the Alpha 300 does not include inReachĀ® satellite communication, making it an excellent option for hunters who don't need off-grid messaging.

What is the difference between the Alpha 300 and Alpha 300i?

The Alpha 300i includes built-in inReachĀ® satellite messaging and emergency SOS capabilities. The standard Alpha 300 offers the exact same premium tracking, mapping, and training features but without the satellite communication hardware components.

How many dogs can the Alpha 300 track?

The Alpha 300 can actively track up to 20 compatible Garmin tracking collars simultaneously on a single screen.

What is the maximum tracking range?

When paired with compatible Garmin collars like the TT25 or T20, the Alpha 300 supports tracking ranges up to 9 miles. Actual range limits vary based on terrain density and environmental conditions.

Does the Alpha 300 support training functions?

Yes. When paired with a compatible training collar such as the Garmin TT25, the Alpha 300 supports 18 levels of continuous and momentary stimulation, plus audible tone and vibration corrections.

Can I download satellite imagery?

Yes. BirdsEye Satellite Imagery can be downloaded directly to your handheld device over a standard Wi-Fi connection without an added subscription, and the Alpha 300 is fully compatible with Garmin Outdoor Maps+ for enhanced topography mapping.

How long does the battery last?

The Alpha 300 provides up to 55 hours of battery runtime under typical field conditions with its rechargeable lithium-ion power system.

Is the Garmin Alpha 300 good for coon hunting?

Absolutely. The Alpha 300 is one of Garmin's premier handheld choices for coon hunters thanks to its high-accuracy GPS tracking, fast location update options, intuitive physical button interface, advanced mapping displays, and exceptional 55-hour battery life.

works, reasonable monthly rate.

i got this, believe it or not, along with a dog collar for my dog who will not eliminate on lead. we were vacationing in the wilds of nh, and i didn't want to have to worry about her running off never to be seen again. she's well behaved overall, but can be skittish in a new environment. this unit works in areas with no cell reception and gave us a low stress vacation.

Reliable, long battery life

This is a high quality piece of equipment. It connects with a TT25 in a few seconds, the connection is solid, and it pretty much works well in all conditions. I am using it 5 times a week, 1h to 1h30 each time, and I charge both this unit and the TT25 every other week. Not by absolute necessity, but just because the batteries are at or just below 50%.The software is showing its age. The UI could be improved, in the age of iPhones, but it works. I guess there is a tradeoff between usability and battery life. This one is prioritizing battery life. I only had one crash in 6 months.I like the physical buttons to activate the collar. Unfortunately they do not work when the screen went to sleep after a while, so you first have to wake up the screen to use these buttons. That would be the one thing to fix if I had to pick one.Great unit though. Maps are preloaded and are very usable. It’s proven software and high grade hardware.

Way better than the Alpha 100. Good for hiking.

So, I bought both the Alpha 100 and the Alpha 300i for comparison. The 300i is way more intuitive and easy to use - hands down. The bigger screen is a must for my big thumbs to navigate. It's a big price difference, but I couldn't go back to the Alpha 100 after trying the Alpha 300i. I bought this to track my dogs while hiking. It doubles as a standalone backpacking GPS too. I'm pleased.

Not cheap but worth the money

My pup got lost in the woods and I need a collar to track her. I tried a FI collar but that didn't work. This will track her in heavy brush. It is very accurate and long battery life. The nice part is I can use this as hiking GPS as well. There is freshwater map that I am looking at getting as well. Garmin makes great stuff and this is no different.
